Original Note

Except for the information on the 1891 census that William’s mother was Mary TRENHOLM I would have thought he could have been the son of John and Zilpha COLE. There does not appear to be another William on the 1871 and 1861 Canadian census returns who could be this William. However, Zilpha appears on both of those. I have tried to find a Mary TRENHOLM on the earlier census returns with no success, also a Mary WHEATON with son William on the 1851 and 1861 census with no results. Help needed!

 

Subsequent Note 27/11/2012

Just working through some unattached families and decided to look at this one. It suddenly struck me that Mary TRENHOLM could have been Miranda’s mother. I then found a Miranda TRENHOLM on the 1871 census in Amherst, Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was living with Joseph (63), Mary (31), Isaac (17), (Miranda (21)), Ruth (27) and Joseph (15). This seemed the right person but Joseph is shown as a widower and there is no Mary TRENHOLM born about 1818.

 

In 1861 Joseph TRENHOLM’s address was Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada but it is not a full census and only shows 4 males and 5 females. (In 1871 there were 3 males and 3 females). 1851 is a similar census but is unreadable anyway!

Original Note

Except for the information on the 1891 census that William’s mother was Mary TRENHOLM I would have thought he could have been the son of John and Zilpha COLE. There does not appear to be another William on the 1871 and 1861 Canadian census returns who could be this William. However, Zilpha appears on both of those. As with most Armed Forces Serving Personal during the conflict of World War Two, Kenneth WHEATON was entitled to the War Medal 1939-1945. This medal was awarded to all full time service personnel who had completed 28 days service between 3rd September 1939 and the 2nd September 1945. Eligible personnel who had been “Mentioned In Despatches” during the War were entitled to wear a bronze oak leaf emblem on the ribbon. Those eligible for a campaign star, yet who had their service cut short by death, wounds or capture by the enemy, still qualified for this medal.

Given the information available to us it is likely that Kenneth WHEATON was awarded the 1939-45 Star for operational Service in the Second World War between 3rd September 1939, and 2nd September 1945.
